The Blackburn family lives outside Malone, Florida, near the Chattahoochee River. They spend most of their free time hunting deer, raccoon, alligator, and quail in bottomland forests and fallow cotton fields. Or catching catfish from bush lines tied to the banks of the Chattahoochee River.

Roughly 70% of their protein comes from the land around their home. With wages remaining stagnant and cost of living increasing, the Blackburns are relying more heavily on hunting and fishing and the recipes their grandmother used during the Depression.
